Mega Specs Mega Bloat

Yesterday I tried out two phones, one was the Galaxy S4 and the other was Note 3, because I wanted to purchase one soon. I have a Galaxy S2, one of the beasts of its time, but easily drains out serving a techie B)

My S2 has been rooted and flashed with CM 10.2 and after using Startup Manager and Clean Master is really slick. Maybe because I just have like 10 apps installed, but that's just about what I seem to use frequently, or may be used in the near future.

I am always reading news like Techmeme, ExtremeTech, and Threat Post to keep abreast of the latest tech. Plus you know how one link takes you to another and then some where else and then you're in some dark corner of the web, eyes are burning and the hunger for info has yet to be satisfied. I'm an IT guy, so I need to even remotely access systems and assist through the phone, managing a few locations.

So I played with the phones, and the S4 is really good and had like 800MB RAM to spare with all that bloatware, which should be enough, and has a fast processor. Then there is the Note 3 which has 1.2GB RAM spare with all that junk software... Notice that S4 has only 2GB RAM and Note 3 has 3GB RAM, yet Note 3 has only 1.2GB RAM !!! ? !!!

That means Sammy found some more junk to load on Note 3 and standardize the average available RAM for users to 1GB :1 So no matter how much RAM they provide they always are going to maintain that 1GB breathing space for us. Sucks. I would anyways just Root it and remove all that junk, which then bring it to its actual Glory, the Note 3. Obviously Note 3 does have some good features, which are really hard for us to recreate in MODS, Sammy Devs get paid, CM's' (see-em-zuh-ses) does'nt, and thus I'll carefully decide what to discard from the OS, like the awful ChatON and SamsungApps and ...... >:|

Although, today I found that the Galaxy S2 will be provided KitKat, newest Android OS, from the Amazing Guys at CM(Cyanogenmod) . This version of Android decreases the size of the OS a LOT !!! note that CM was already the size of a transistor in comparison to the old Jelly Bean, a chip :) but the main feature is that it'll have ART a new compiler which compiles the app, which is made for all display types ( to ensure write once, execute everywhere), to machine code specifically for your phone, thus reducing unnecessary code and making it quicker for your phone to execute. Before this, phone had to repeatedly read code meant for itself from the apk and then convert to machine code and then execute which took a lot of time and power. Read More about ART here ( Broken into Parts 1 2 3 ).

So I'm thinking I'll wait for CM 11 and see if there are any noticeable improvements, I hope it does, else I'll go for the Note 3 and hack all the junk apps to a sweet death 3:)

WHATCHU THINK !! ?? !!
