Hey People, you must be aware of Bitcoin, now kinda famous for more Bad reasons than Good, and seems to be increasing in value, sometimes changing haphazardly, because it's value depends on how much currency has been invested in it to buy them Bitcoins, and also all those computers trying to mine those coins because the Bitcoin is based on mathematics and solving problems to create more units of Bitcoin by verifying the transactions involving Bitcoin.

Thus, because of the low investment in resources and the high value of the coins lots of people install a software to remotely get their computers to work on those problems to earn Bitcoins that way. They use specific hardware configs specially designed to efficiently mine it.

Now researchers are saying

that the total processing power of all those people mining Bitcoins, surpasses the power of most of the Super Computers! But the thing is , this involves a lot of electricity! And it doesn't really do anything for the present! Like solve current problems.

Such processing power is just what scientists and researchers need to create simulations and process complex data or sift through big data to get insights into it, things that would help us solve real life present problems, like for example SETI, where we are looking to space to search for ET life. Another project is for finding how would malaria mutate to overcome present vaccinations, I think they would use it to make vaccinations used preemptively make us immune to it before it mutates, so that, when it mutates it isn't able to survive and we can destroy the virus once and for all, and put it in the extinct species billboard.

There is already a software made by the Berkeley University which enables us to give our processing power to these researchers and scientists which most of the time they don't have access to. Let's support and donate.

You don't have to let it run all day. There is granular control over CPU only of CPU / GPU use for calculations. Over when you want it to run during the day and also decide specific timings for each day, so like you can switch of processing for the weekend when you are most likely to use it. Plus you can manually start and pause it, so pause when you are using and the resume when you know you will be away for a while.

Once installed you would be asked to choose projects to which you offer your processing power, most of them have detailed description of what they would use it for. So you can choose. There are managers available too, they will decide on your behalf what projects to sign up to. 

You would need to register with those projects on their respective websites, usually with just an e-mail and password. Here comes the best part :D you get points for the work that you take up and finish, thus allowing you to Brag and Compete with Friends !!! :D
